Distance Between Wall Sconces
6 years ago my bathroom design calls for 1 distance between light sconces from the vanity mirror as per attached drawing.
Distance between wall sconces. Mark with a pencil on the wall. Step 4 reference the measurement you took in step 2 and measure that same distance on the wall from the where the top of the sconce hits the wall the mark made in step 3. Putting a little bit of space between the picture and the sconce helps to avoid a cluttered appearance. No matter where you d like wall sconces to go they should be hung roughly 60 inches from the floor and if possible approximately six feet apart from each other.
If sconces are used in a hallway they should generally be spaced about 8 feet to 10 feet apart and should be placed so that a given wall sconce on one wall is facing the area between two on the opposing wall. These are the general lighting rules for using a wall light but as we all know some rules can be bent. Once you have figured out where you want to hang the sconces be sure to let a professional electrician install them. Other applications call for shorter spacing distances.
This dimension is found on each sconce page which has a link for view technical drawing. Measure from the center outside edge of the picture at least 4 inches to the right or left of the picture to determine the best placement for the sconce. Therefore the wall box for that sconce should be six feet less the distance from the top of the sconce to the center of the wall box. Use the pencil to mark where the top of the sconce hits the wall.
A good rule of thumb is to hang sconces anywhere from 60 to 70. Wall mount the sconces on both sides of the mirror. Generally this would be a minimum of six feet from the floor.
